Our assignments are well-paced and do not affect our work. The lecturers have always been very helpful and approachable as they are always open to us contacting them if we have any enquiries. I chose to study with Murdoch University as the programme outline matched what I was looking for to prepare myself for a sales and development management role.
As I work full-time while studying part-time, I appreciate that the curriculum is planned such that the classes are held on alternate weeks. This gives me the flexibility to balance my school, work, family and social commitments. The curriculum also emphasises learning and understanding the lectures via assignments, including post-lecture online activities to help reaffirm our understanding.
Since the lecturers have work experience in various industries, they can relate real situations at the workplace and offer live examples of how we can apply the theories, making them easier for us to understand the logic behind them.

For my self-improvement and to better understand business and management skills, I opted to advance my studies. I chose Murdoch University as it is a reputable institution in Singapore and I was familiar with it. Also, with a Murdoch University qualification, a lot of companies are opening their doors for us to enter at higher positions.
To further extend my knowledge to improve my management skills, I decided on studying Double Majors instead of a Single Major, and I would recommend others do the same as. Considering that you are already in it to fulfil your aim for a Degree, why not maximise your time and effort to acquire another specialisation which can propel you to greater heights. Since business makes the world goes round, I believe management knowledge is also good to have when starting your own.
While studying part-time, I found the Knowledge Management and Strategic Management modules to be beneficial as I was already exposed to some of the learnings during my service in the SAF as well as in my current employment. On top of that, the Business Analytics module was useful for my understanding of the different fundamentals of decision making in business.
I appreciate Murdoch’s lecturers as I felt that they did their jobs amazingly well, ensuring that all students understood the lesson and scrutinising our assignments to ensure we can score well for it. Despite being in an adult learning environment, some lecturers even made the class interactive by implementing games and rewards to encourage us to do well in class.
Working as a Senior Airport Emergency Service Officer involves responding to real-time incidents in the airport, and it takes a lot of tenacity to manage a team while handling a crisis simultaneously. Hence, managing them well during peacetime will ensure optimum performance in times of crisis, and the management skill set I’ve acquired helps me do so. In fact, it was thanks to the Degree that I was able to apply for a management role in the AES, and I aim to set up my own business eventually.

I decided to upgrade myself when I was transferred from Finance department to a Customer Service role. I feel it is imperative to develop new skill sets and knowledge to strengthen my portfolio and for future career advancement.
Initially, I was not sure whether to choose the single or double majors. After much consideration, I decided to go ahead with a Double Major in International Business and Management. The key reason is that an International Business qualification can open up career opportunities in a variety of sectors and countries around the world.
For example, the company I am currently working, it started its business in catering for local clients. However, in recent years, it has expanded into Malaysia and other parts of the Asia-Pacific region. I believe this programme can help me to develop a global mindset. The modules cover different aspects – from International Marketing, Management, Human Resources, Operations, and Economics to Business Negotiation.
As a Customer Service Executive, the knowledge I gained from studying Management equips me on how to effectively lead and manage people.
The modules such as Organisational Theory and Behaviour, Business Analytics and Decision Making, Organisation Development Change are practical and industry-relevant.
Another reason I chose Murdoch University was because it would allow me to work and study at the same time. Due to its flexibility, I have control over my schedule. It is a merit for working professionals like us, and its central location is another plus point.

Since I graduated with a Diploma in Leisure and Events Management from Temasek Polytechnic, I thought it would be an opportunity for me to venture into a different field when selecting a Degree programme. As such, I chose to take up a Double Major in Management and Marketing.
Besides, I have always had a passion for lifelong learning. I believe that my current course of study would enrich me with the valuable skills and knowledge needed to excel in my future endeavours.
Choosing these two specialisations will provide me with opportunities to work a range of roles including product and brand management, market research and analysis, advertising and promotion, online communications, consulting and business administration.
